Best of all, it is a celebration of girlhood, with Blyton's postwar focus on the necessity not just to be kind but to be strong women. This, ironically, gives Malory Towers its most contemporary resonance. For grownups, it is a knowing trip back in time.
The Guardian
The magic of English children's literature icon Enid Blyton is distilled on stage in celebrated theatremaker Emma Rice's latest adaptation of Mallory Towers. Following a critically acclaimed Bristol run in July 2019, the rollicking theatrical adventure returns on a UK tour, ending with a stint at London's Southbank Centre. Don't miss the nostalgic production's dormitory drama and jolly japes this summer!
Based on the beloved series of novels by Blyton, the family-friendly story takes place at Malory Towers School, where new girl Darrell Rivers arrives. Wherever she roams, hijinks soon follow and given her courageous heart and eager mind, she's the perfect pint-sized role model. But she also has a quick temper and must learn how to tolerate her rival Gwendoline Lacey and value her kind-hearted friend Sally Hope, whilst saving the school play to boot!
Opening night: 7 July 2020
